If you asked Rev. David Efflandt, about 10 years ago, if he thought he would one day be a pastor, the answer would have been no.
Efflandt was enjoying his life in Southern California, where he taught middle school band.
Then it happened.
He got a call from God.

A house fire occurred on Thursday afternoon in Wasioja Township, around 209th Avenue.
At this time it is unknown if there was any injuries or if there were any occupants in the home at the time of the fire.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
The DCI will provide updates as they become available.
 

Rehearsals are under way for the Triton spring musical, and director Anne Schreiber says the cast is loaded with talent.
“We do have a lot of talented singers and actors,” she said.

In the moments after the K-M wrestling team’s loss to Simley on February 16, I stood around many of the stunned members of KoMet Nation.
The wrestling team had just lost their first dual during my four years as sports editor at the DCI and as it picked up its second place trophy and stood for a team photo in disappointment, there was one thought that would come across my mind.

At the regular school board meeting Feb. 19, Superintendent Joey Page explained to school board members that the district was ready for “flex-learning days” the next time the district had to declare a snow day. He commented that that didn’t mean the flex day would be used the next day but the district was ready, if it did.
And sure enough, the next day, Feb. 20 was another snow day for Byron schools.

Cindy Clayton feels great and she wants everyone else to feel the same way.
To accomplish that goal Clayton opened her new business, Healthy Starts, in Byron in January. The store features energy drinks and shakes, all healthy of course.
“My passion is to share my experiences,” she said. “My motivation is the way I feel and sharing that with people.”

Gregg Richard Peterson, at the age of  63, passed away Feb. 2, 2019 at Whitewater Care Center in St. Charles, following a lengthy illness with COPD and pulmonary fibrosis.

Charles Bishop, long-time Kasson resident and co-owner of Bishop & Wachholz, Inc., passed away, surrounded by family and friends, on Feb. 22, 2019 due to complications from a fall on the ice. He had resided for three weeks at Seasons Hospice in Rochester. He was 81.
Born in 1937 on the family’s dairy farm near Dallas, Wis., Chuck graduated from Barron High School in 1955 where he was a stand-out running back.

Eldora “Dori” May Jensen, 91, passed away Feb. 10, 2019 at Fairview Care Center in Dodge Center.
Dori was born Sept. 20, 1927 in Dodge County, the daughter of Thomas and Ruth (Crawford) Meeks. She was united in marriage to Oscar Jensen, Oct. 2, 1945 in Kasson.
