The Dodge County Food Shelf and other Semcac services are now moved into their new facility in Kasson. The offices are now located at 20 E. Veterans Highway.
Semcac has a variety of services it offers in Kasson, said Outreach Director Wendy Todd, who works out of the main Semcac office in Rushford.

This year’s fall show at Triton was the award-winning play “The Miracle Worker,” directed Karen Kleinwort and Anne Schreiber.
All involved considered it a very successful run, said Schreiber.
The cast and crew performed at a senior citizen matinee on Nov. 5, followed by the general admission performances on Nov. 7-9. Each show had a great crowd, and attendance numbers showed an increase from last year.

Building on last year’s successful event, Hayfield Elementary School celebrated its second annual “Kindness Week” Nov. 4-8.
Elementary teacher Nicole Smith explained she started the kindness initiative in the school last year and “we had such a great time spreading kindness in our school and community that we decided to continue it.”

The Dodge County Board of Commissioners met for a regular meeting last week during which they adjusted the Waste-to-Energy {WTE} service charge for waste haulers, postponed action on whether or not to help share the cost of a Highway 14 Access Study and received an update on third quarter financials.

Sunday, Jan. 14, 2018 began like most Sundays for Charles Schaal, pastor of the First Congregational Church in Dodge Center.
He was at the golf course in Dodge Center where he generally went for breakfast before heading to the church to conduct services. It was there he began to feel the effects of the stroke, which continued to become more pronounced as he led the morning worship.

Last Tuesday, just hours apart, two police officers here in Minnesota took their own lives, leaving behind spouse, fiancé, kids, family, friends, and co-workers. One of these officers, Sgt. Cory Slifko, was the husband of Katie Berge, who grew up here in Dodge County.

The Kasson City Council has made its choice for a new city administrator. On Wednesday night, the city voted to offer the position to Timothy Ibisch, currently the city administrator for the City of Blue Earth in southwestern Minnesota.
Kasson officials will begin negotiations with Ibisch immediately. 

Gerald “Jay” Wayne Laumb Jr., 48, of Kasson, passed away surrounded by his family on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2019 in Rochester.  Jay had fought a long hard battle with brain cancer for the last 12 years.
Jay was born on May 6, 1971 to Gerald Sr. and Barbara (Carrier) Laumb in Winona. He married Amber Hoff on May 24, 1997 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kasson. Together they have two children, Brady and Makinna Laumb. 

Olgar L. Himle, 90 of rural Austin, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2019, surrounded by his family at home in Udolpho Township.
Olgar Lon was born April 29, 1929 to Erick and Bertha (Brekke) Himle near Rock Dell, Minn. He was a graduate of Hayfield High School. On July 27, 1979, Olgar was united in marriage to Judy Beckman at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Waltham.
