Signe Fineid, 95, of Rochester passed away at Seasons Hospice on Nov. 3, 2019.
She was born on Sept. 7, 1924 in Kristisand South, Norway to Ludvig & Inger Nordkvist.  She married Tore Fineid on March 4, 1943. 

The funeral service for Kenneth M. Bale, 85, of rural Rochester, MN will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 14, 2019 at East St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Rock Dell with Rev. Paul Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Bale died on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2019 following an illness with heart disease at Mayo Clinic Rochester – St. Mary’s Campus, where he had been a patient.

Over the past few weeks we have written several stories, editorials and columns about the Hwy. 14 expansion between Dodge Center and Owatonna finally getting underway after decades of political fighting to find the funding.

With the current sub-freezing temperatures, you don’t need me or the House of Stark (a Game of Thrones reference) to tell you that winter is coming.
                  However, one of the positive of getting further into November is that the winter sports season is just around the corner.

There are thousands of high school football players in Minnesota, but only a select few from each class are chosen as individual academic all-state selections.
                  One of the 14 players chosen to represent Class A is Hayfield running back and punter Carter Kyllo.

The Byron school colors are black and gold so it’s fitting that their varsity football earned the gold award for team academic all state from the Minnesota Football Coaches Association.
                  The criterion for the gold award is a cumulative team grade point average of 3.26 or higher.
            Only four 4A teams received this prestigious honor.

Triton Elementary School announced its October Hero Award recipients at a recent assembly at the school.
Students designated as Heroes for their behavior and helpfulness included:
Kindergarten: Diana Chable, Brynlee Dahl, Stella Kispert, Adyson Johnsen, Maxwell Becker, Avery Dean. First Grade: Izabella Ortiz, Colton Louks, Olivia Hodgman, Alexys Pyfferoen;

Not too many third graders can say they are running their own business. But for Triton Elementary School student Ruby Kellogg her business is all in a day’s work.
Kellogg, who is a student in Mrs. Voxland’s class, has been selling jewelry, with the help of her mother, through a direct sale company, similar to Mary Kay, she said.

The “newest Lions Club in the whole world” became official Sunday night as the West Concord Community Lions Club received its Charter and inducted the first members at Charter Night at the West Concord Historical Society.
The evening included a social hour, buffet catered by Omar’s Café and the program.
More than 20 charter members were inducted into the organization, the club received its charter and officers were installed.
