After starting off their season with a close win over Randolph, the Hayfield boys’ basketball team made sure their game against New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva (NRHEG) wasn’t quite as close as they cruised to a 76-45 win on Friday, Dec. 6.

While it was the Byron wrestling team’s first meet of the season, it didn’t look like it as the Bears stormed back from an early deficit to defeat Cannon Falls 43-27 on Thursday, Dec. 5.
            Head Coach Ryan Radke said his team was able to get the win because the Bears played up to their potential.

By all accounts the Kasson-Mantorville wrestling team had a successful tournament in Andover as the team won first place and three individuals won first place too.
In the first round, Luke Swanson at 106 and Dominic Mann at 113 both won by fall to advance to the semifinals.
Joey Kennedy won 9-4 at 120 to advance to the semifinals, while Keyan Langaniere won by fall at 126 to also advance to the semifinals.

Let’s hope the crowd at last Friday’s Dodge County girls’ hockey game brought plenty of hats because two Wildcats earned hat tricks to lead Dodge County to a 7-0 win over Moose Lake Area.
            Nevaeh Trihey got the scoring started with an even strength goal in the first period. Halle Determan and Kayla Schubert earned assists on the goal.

For Tessa Stites, releasing her debut single “M.O.” was the culmination of years of hard work but also the beginning of what she hopes is a career in music.
Part of the reason she’s been able to release her own music while still in school is because she’s spent years learning her craft.
“I’ve loved music since a young age,” she said.

Sometimes the best advice comes from unlikely sources and that was the case on Wednesday, Dec. 4, when Viktor the Viking, the Minnesota Vikings’ mascot, came to Kasson-Mantorville Elementary School (KMES) to spread his anti-bullying campaign.

Two Triton High School seniors have been named recipients of this year’s Triple A Award.
The Triton AAA Selection Committee named Kendra Petersohn and Jay Yankowiak as the 2019-2020 AAA Award winners.
Petersohn is the daughter of Tracy and Michelle Petersohn. She has a 4.0 GPA and has participated in volleyball, basketball, track, Minnesota Honor Society, Link Crew, SADD and Choir.

Rick Bussler, owner and publisher of the Dodge County Independent (DCI) has named a native Minnesotan to head up the operations.
Keith Hansen assumed the duties of associate publisher on Dec. 2.

Marge J. Deml, age 99, of Owatonna, passed away Nov. 28, 2019.
