Now and Then

In May 1979, members of the Kasson-Mantorville Vo-Ag class were busy planting 500 Norway Pines and Green Ash in North Park around what was eventually going to be a softball field. There are now two softball fields located at Veterans Park north of the Aquatic Center. When the Dutch Elm disease caused a huge loss of elm trees, a large number of ash trees were planted as replacements.

Litomysl celebrates 51st annual summer festival Sunday

Holy Trinity Catholic Church of Litomysl will be showing off its country church pride at the 51st Annual Summer Festival on Sunday, July 30.
The 170 families of the parish will host the event which is one of the largest summer parish festivals held in Minnesota each year. The country style festival draws people from all over.

‘Let Me Have My Son’ showing at Bible Lutheran Tuesday

“Let Me Have My Son,” will be shown at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, August 1, at Bible Lutheran Church, 11 First Avenue SE, in Dodge Center. Doors will open at 6 p.m. for an Ice Cream Social.
The movie is the story of a young man suffering from mental illness and the father who loves him.

Help fight Alzheimer’s at benefit by Mary’s Angels

Mary’s Angels hope to blast past the $100,000 mark with this year’s benefit honoring a loved one who died from Alzheimer’s disease.
The eighth annual Mary’s Angels Alzheimer’s benefit will take place on Saturday, Aug. 5 at Uncle Mony’s in Hayfield. As in past years, the benefit will feature a silent auction, bake sale and meal.
