Rain dampens Cruisin’ For Cancer in Kasson

Poor weather impacted the 4th Annual Cruisin’ For Cancer on June 24 in Kasson.
Fifty people turned out for the event, said organizer Tanya Young. They raised $3,000, which was shy of the goal for the St. John’s Warriors but “overall it went good,” Young said.
Because of rain, the fundraiser organizers didn’t put up the bounce house and other outdoor games. They also didn’t put out the luminaries as planned.

Bill, Michele Stromme keeping active in community

William Stromme was born in Biloxi, Miss., as his father was in the Air Force, and later they moved to Louisiana when his dad started working for IBM. The Stromme family moved to Minnesota in 1976, with his two sisters, when his dad was transferred to Rochester with IBM. They lived in Rochester for a short time before moving to Byron when Bill was age 12.

Local organizations receive books from SMIF grant

Three local organizations have received children’s books from the Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation’s (SMIF) Early Literacy Grant Program. SMIF recently awarded 22,350 children’s books to 53 organizations. This grant supports early literacy efforts that enhance school readiness for children birth to age eight by providing children with books.
