Catherine M. Behounek passed away on Tuesday, April 20, 2021, at Susie’s Place in Hayfield.

Beverly Jean Stucky, 79, of Kasson, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, April 17, 2021, at her home. 
Beverly was born on March 29, 1942 in Tracy to Harold and Ebba (Jessen) Timgren. She attended Milroy and Redwood Falls school. She worked in general service information desk and coat check at Mayo Clinic in Rochester. On Jan. 12, 1984 she married James Stucky. They shared their home together in Kasson.

Betty Pauline Bradford, 89, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 18, 2021, at Fairview Care Center in Dodge Center.
Betty was born on March 26, 1932 to Lucius and Ella Lewis in Hayfield. After graduating from Hayfield High School, she met and married Charles Bradford in December 1950. Chuck and Betty made Mantorville their home for many years. 

 
Last week was one of those weeks!
Has anyone ever had one of those days when everything begins to pile up like a train wreck?
Last week was just that at the Dodge County Independent. At first, a few Byron subscribers did not get their DCI and that was followed up by phones on Friday with disgruntled folks in Hayfield, with each caller stating no one in town received last week’s DCI.

Kasson-Mantorville’s KoMets traveled to Stewartville on Saturday, April 24, for a doubleheader against the Tigers.

Leslie DeRaad was born in St Paul and the family moved to Dodge Center in 1975. He attended Dodge Center schools where he was involved with sports and plays. He has two sisters and a brother, one lives in Rochester and a sister and brother live in Kasson.
His dad operated a welding shop in Dodge Center for many years so Les said he helped him some on projects and remembers making livestock pens for the Dodge County Fair.

Byron’s school board members are expected to decide on who they want to be the district’s next superintendent on Friday.
Last week the board chose five finalists from 13 applicants for interviews.
The five candidates include:
Theodore Ihns, superintendent, Howard-Winneshiek Schools, Cresco, Iowa
Craig Ihrke, superintendent, Caledonia Area Schools, Caledonia, Minn.

Byron High School’s agriculture program has been growing flowers and vegetables in the school greenhouse and is now in its eighth year of hosting the annual plant sale. Vo-ag instructor, Alison Newman, who is in her 16th year of teaching at Byron, said they will have 2,300 flowers in individual containers, 100 hanging baskets, and 800 4-packs of vegetables with different varieties for sale.

Actors in a theatrical production are supported by a large group of behind-the-scenes people and the spring production at Kasson-Mantorville High School is no exception.
“Little Shop of Horrors” is a musical set in skid row in the middle of the last century and while most of the costumes look rather normal there are a few unique aspects. In particular, there are talking, man-eating plants.
