Old Glory is once again fluttering through the air in front of the historic Kasson School.
On Flag Day, the Kasson Alliance for Restoration (KARE) dedicated a new flagpole and raised a new American flag at the main entrance to the school in recognition of the school’s 100thanniversary.

A Kasson police officer is behind bars facing charges in connection with a sexual assault.
Julio Baez-Cisneros was booked into the Olmsted County Jail on Tuesday at 7:35 p.m. He is expected to be arraigned on charges Thursday morning.

Ronald Allen Swenson Sr., age 76, passed away peacefully at Birchwood Cottages in Owatonna.
A graveside service and burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 14, 2018 at Red Oak Grove Cemetery, rural Blooming Prairie. 

Ruth Elaine Buckley, 91, of Detroit Lakes, passed away the morning of June 3rd in St. Paul surrounded by her adoring family.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Raymond Fay Threinen was held on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at the Church of the Holy Family in Kasson with Father John Lasuba as celebrant. 
Mr. Threinen, 94, of rural Mantorville, died of natural causes on Friday, June 1, 2018 in hospice care at The Bluffs in Lake City.

Marlyss Jeanne Thompson, 89, of Hayfield passed away on June 5, 2018, at Mayo Clinic Hospital St. Mary's Campus in Rochester. 
Marlyss Jeanne was born on July 10, 1928, the daughter of Claude Ray  and Sarah Etta (Babcock) Uptagrafft in rural West Concord.

George Maurice Lally, 96, of Kasson, passed away June 8, 2018, at Fairview Care Center in Dodge Center.
George was born on Jan. 9, 1922, in Mazeppa  to Maurice and Cora (Baker) Lally. He attended high school in Mantorville, graduating in 1939. On July 18, 1942, he married Mavis Smith in Claremont. From 1944-1946, he served in the Army, stationed in Munich, Germany.

After the girls team advanced to the second round of the Section 1AA Golf Tournament in Rochester, the Kasson-Mantorville golf team had a different goal on the second day to see if they could push anyone through to the state tournament.

We honored fallen police officers during National Police Week last month. It’s only fitting to recognize those who have given the ultimate sacrifice to protect others.
However, there appears to be yet a different and potentially more dangerous crisis facing our law enforcement warriors: police suicide.
