Then and Now

Shown here is a scene from the 1949 Dodge County Dairy Show with the DCI newspaper saying the 1950 show would be even larger. The dairy show was held outdoors and all of the buildings in the photo have been replaced with new barns. The grandstand featured Minnesota political candidates Orville Freeman running for Attorney and Ancher Nelson running for Lieutenant Governor.

I Was Thinking... Relax

As a kid, you couldn’t wait for summer. School was out and when you were young, all you had to do was play. You could ride your bike, play ball, or just lie on the grass and watch the clouds float by. You knew how to relax.

Community invited to give ‘Fresh Coat for the Blue’

Kasson’s Police Office will be getting a “Fresh Coat for the Blue” next week.
Adam Schlaeger got the idea of asking the community to help giving a new coat of paint to the Police Department’s building. He, and Tanya Young, are asking community members to help by volunteering to paint or bringing or donating supplies like paint brushes/rollers and paint trays. Financial donations are also being accepted, she said.

I Was Thinking... Small Towns

If you happened to grow up on the East or West Coast of the U.S., much of the rest of the country is considered “fly over land” by those living in those heavily populated areas. They may recognize urban areas like Chicago, St. Louis, Detroit, Minneapolis, and maybe even Kansas City or Denver.

I Was Thinking... Too Much Stuff

“The Right Stuff” was a great movie about the test pilots that eventually became our first astronauts. But for most of us, “the right stuff” is what we thought we needed at one time and we bought it. It may have been that perfect collectable beer mug, the pair of shoes that went with that one dress, a tool you just couldn’t do without or a kitchen appliance that was a fad for a while.

I Was Thinking... Sounds, Sights, & Scents

Tonight was one of the first evenings I sat on our deck this spring. It was 7:30, warm, and this time there wasn’t any wind. The sun still shined on the top half of our backyard tree as it began its nightly descent.
