Jumping for joy over new daycare center

When stay-at-home mom Lindsay Jenkins decided to return to school, she needed to find care for her 2-year-old son Jaxon. Who did she look to? Those she knew.
Jaxon attends Jumping Jax Kids daycare center in Hayfield, which opened last month and has dozens of kids enrolled. Owner Kelli Jax held an open house and ribbon cutting on Saturday, Sept. 7, and many community members turned out in support.

Hayfield man wins in first-ever Gun Bingo

A Dodge County man has come away as the big winner in a first of its kind fundraiser featuring guns of all things.
Brady Kramer of Hayfield was the winner of the first Gun Bingo game on Thursday night, Sept. 12 at the Servicemen's Club in Blooming Prairie. He was given a certificate to pick up his gun at the Weibke Fur Company in Eitzen, Minn.

First female bishop takes over ELCA synod

The synod that comprises all the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America parishes throughout southeastern Minnesota, including Dodge County, has a new bishop.
On Saturday, St. John Lutheran Church in Owatonna hosted the installation service for the Rev. Regina Hassanally as bishop of the Southeastern Minnesota Synod of the ELCA.

Huppler, Ferry named ‘Gems of Mantorville’

Each year at Marigold Days two individuals are named “Gems of Mantorville.” This year’s honorees included Karl Huppler as the present-day Gem and Tom Ferry as the historic Gem.
The Gems are chosen by the city’s Economic Development Authority.

A royalty of sizeable differences

This year’s Homecoming Royalty at Hayfield High School brought some laughter to audience members when the tallest finalist Luke Dudycha was crowned king with the Court’s shortest candidate Carly Hauschild earning the queen title. The two shared a funny moment when Dudycha crouched down and Hauschild stretched so they could be at the same level. See page 8B for more scenes from Monday night’s coronation.
