Tuesday night, Sept. 15, the Kasson-Mantorville KoMets girls soccer hosted another home game against one of the best teams in southeastern Minnesota, Rochester Lourdes.

Byron’s boys soccer team finished the week with two very close but key wins over visiting Pine Island/Zumbrota/Mazeppa and away at Stewartville. The two wins closed out the Hiawatha Valley League schedule with a perfect 7-0 record and their second consecutive HVL Conference title.

Paul and Catherine Sorum moved to Mantorville in 2003. Paul grew up near Remer, Minn. with three brothers and two sisters and Cathy in Anoka with three siblings.

Erdman’s Country Market in Kasson will make the transition to a Dollar Fresh grocery store in coming weeks. Hy-Vee, Inc. will officially take over the grocery store on Oct. 1.

Allen Lenard Colburn passed away the morning of Sept. 5, 2020, at age 85, after living with cancer for several years.Al was born April 9, 1935 on a farm in Concord Township to Norman and Berdella Colburn. He was born weighing little more than four pounds, and with scarlet fever, yet grew up one of seven healthychildren.

Edward (Ed) Voll was born Dec. 14, 1921 on the Voll farm in Byron and lived there for 97 years. He passed away Sept. 7, 2020 at the age of 98.
Ed graduated from Byron High School in 1940. The BHS class of 1940 had 15 people and he was the last surviving member of his class.
