Although the annual Marigold Days celebration was cancelled earlier this summer by the Marigold Days Committee because of the COVID-19 pandemic, that doesn’t mean there will not be some activities in town this weekend.
Mantorville Chamber members have put together a Mantorville Days celebration that will start Thursday and continue through Sunday on a reduced scale.

Jim and Crystal Whitmarsh both grew up in Michigan but moved to Kasson in 2017. Jim attended Michigan Tech University, majoring in mechanical engineering and also received an MBA there, while Crystal attended Finlandia University in Hancock, Mich. Both schools are located in the Keweenaw Peninsula of Upper Michigan.

Last Friday evening as most folks were heading home for the weekend and happened to pass Daniel’s Restaurant on South Mantorville Ave., they may have been surprised with the large number of cars that had jammed the parking lot at Daniel’s.
It was saying goodbye to the Daniels family, owners for 42 years of the breakfast, lunch and dinner restaurant.

Patrick Dugall Chase, 73, of Mantorville, died Monday, Aug. 24, 2020 at Mayo Clinic Hospital St. Marys Campus in Rochester.
Pat was born on April 1, 1947 to Charles and Marie (Doleshall) Chase in Winslow, AZ.  On April 1, 2006 he married Dianne Welke and she survives him. 

Area youth anglers are headed to the state championship next month, as part of the Kasson-Mantorville Youth Fishing Team’s 2020 season.
Twenty-one Kasson-Mantorville students in grades 6-12 participate on the co-ed team. The team will take six anglers to the state tournament; those students earned their spot on the state team based on their scores from summer tournaments.

The Byron Bears traveled to Triton for the opening game of the 2020 season on Thursday night and came away with a resounding 11-0 win. In a very hot humid evening the Bears did what they have been unable to do since last October:  Play an outdoor futball game. Both teams were excited to be outside and competing. 

Nugget Fields grew up in Arizona and is a first generation American as her grandmother and mother both were from Mexico and they spoke Spanish all the time at their home. Her father, George Stevens, was a rancher and was also involved with law enforcement in the Patagonia, AZ area. Since her father was also a gold miner he gave her the unusual name of Nugget.
