B-r-r-r it’s getting cold out there!That was the sense of many as Dodge County temperatures slid into the 40s as most returned to work after the Labor Day weekend. Accompanied by light rain, the miserable index hit in the negative zone.

Both Kasson-Mantorville cross country teams ran very well in the cold temperatures last week. The rain held off so the kids could run without getting wet. 
The KoMet Girls were led by senior Tiana Wiebke in a time of 21:23. The KoMet Boys were led by freshmen Gryffon Funke in 18:37. 

Tuesday night, Sept. 8, was a cold and rainy night, but that didn’t stop fans from coming out to watch K-M Girls soccer and their game against local rivals Byron Bears.
KoMet #6, Addie Evans, kicked the ball that started the long, intense game. It was a very aggressive 80 minutes with many battles over the ball. KoMet #10 and Bear #20 had a quick feisty fight for control of the ball, Byron was able to gain control.

Don Hofstad grew up on a small farm west of Pine Island in the Roscoe area with a sister
21 years older and a brother 14 years older. He graduated from Pine Island in 1985 and during his school years was involved  FFA and football and he played trumpet in the band.

Jay and LeahAnn Clemens have opened Clem’s Cups & Cones at the old Shopko on Highway 57 in Kasson, in what’s now called Plaza 57. The couple’s soft business opening was on Saturday, Sept. 12, and it was launched quietly.
“We turned on the open sign and let it go,” said Jay Clemens. “We were busy. It was steady all day.”

With the COVID-19 pandemic still going on, this did not seem like a good summer to operate a neighborhood lemonade stand. So what are youngsters who want to make a few dollars to do? That’s simple, set up a stand in the driveway selling face masks.

There are only 112 days remaining in 2020. Many can’t wait.
Pending something catastrophic or a dramatic resurgence of COVID-19, the New Year, 2021, will be a true time of celebration. Needless to say, 2020 has been a nightmarish year for most folks in Minnesota and Dodge County, specifically.
