KoMet wrestlers beat Bears 57-15

After a long wait, with great uncertainty, the KoMet wrestlers stepped back onto the mat. 
The MSHSL met in October and approved starting winter sports Nov. 30. The winter schedules are to be decreased by 30%. No tournaments, no invitationals. No event larger than a triangular. At that time, the MSHSL declared that there would be no state tournaments. 

Area wrestlers named to Region 1 Hall of Fame

Several area residents are among those recently named to the Mayo Civic Center Region 1 Wrestling Hall of Fame Class of 2021.
Among those honored are athletes Jason Rhoten, Kasson-Mantorville High School; Chris Steele, Hayfield High School and athlete/coach Mike Buringa, Plainville-Elgin-Millville who formerly coached at Kasson-Mantorville.

West Concord narrowing down police chief candidates

West Concord officials are narrowing down their search for a full time police chief. City Council members decided at their December to consider moving from a part time to a full time chief. 
West Concord is one of two Dodge County municipalities that has its own Police Department. With the exception of West Concord and Kasson, all county cities contract law enforcement to the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office.

‘Like a Good Neighbor’ Jana Nawrocki serves local residents

Jana Nawrocki grew up on a hobby farm near Fairmont. She took part in band, choir and track while at Fairmont High School and was active in 4-H and the church youth group. In 4-H she did sewing projects, foods projects, home improvements and showed her horse at the Martin County Fair.

Kasson upgrades city council chambers

Kasson City Hall underwent a facelift, with the city using CARES money to upgrade its city council chambers that are used for city meetings.
The $105,000 price tag was covered by government CARES funding for COVID-19-related projects. The city used local contractors for the work, including Preferred Heating & Cooling, Ripley Electric and Kyle Stavlo as contractor.

Area school boards welcome new officers

Area school boards are welcoming new officers this month, with incoming chairs, vice chairs, clerks and treasurers reporting for duty.
School board officers have turned over at Kasson-Mantorville, Byron and Hayfield. At Triton, the school board officers remained the same for 2021-22, with Rebecca Knutson staying on as chairperson, Melissa Kubat as vice chairperson, Dale Jensen as clerk and Duane Bartel as treasurer.

Loretta Marie Brandli, 87, West Concord

Loretta Marie Brandli, age 87, of West Concord, formerly of Kasson, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 10, 2021 at Chico’s Board and Lodge in West Concord, where she resided for the last 10 years.
Loretta was born on Nov. 24, 1933 in Faribault, to Henry and Matilda (Schwartz) O’Malley. She graduated from Mantorville High School. Throughout her life she spent most of her time raising her six children. She will be deeply missed.
