Mantorville senior heads to West Point

Ashlyn Bigelow, 17, of Mantorville, was considering going to the University of Minnesota until the United States Military Academy West Point contacted her.
A Kasson-Mantorville High School senior, Bigelow soon changed course and decided she would attend West Point and play basketball there. “Once West Point contacted me, it became pretty clear what I wanted to do,” Bigelow said.

Memorial Day services planned in Dodge County, Byron

Area communities are preparing to observe the Memorial Day holiday with special programs and services on Monday.

Kasson’s American Legion will observe Memorial Day with a program at the Kasson-Mantorville High School North Gym at 11 a.m. preceded by services at area cemeteries.
Monday’s program begins with patriotic music by the KM High School Band at 10:50 a.m.

A knee on our necks

I read with interest the recent column by Sheriff Scott Rose, “Stop demonizing our law enforcement” (DCI- May 6 edition). His politically charged piece chastises Governor Tim Walz, questioning “what has our Minnesota Governor done to support law enforcement?”

Stanley Leroy Tompkins, 89, Kasson

Mary Kay Agerter, age 84, of Escanaba, formerly of West Concord, passed away on Saturday, February 27, 2021, at Christian Park Healthcare Center in Escanaba, with her husband Ronald by her side. 

Harry Charles Marquardt, 92, Hayfield

Harry Charles Marquardt, 92, of Hayfield, formerly of Dodge Center, passed away on Sunday May 16, 2021 at Fieldcrest Care Center in Hayfield. 
Harry was born on May 3, 1929 in Dodge County, to William and Alma (Burzlaff) Marquardt.  He attended country schools in Dodge County. He farmed all of his life in Dodge Center. On October 29, 1994 he married Arlinda Polaschek in Dodge Center.
