George W. Knudson peacefully passed away at 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8, 2021,  at Fairview Care Center with family by his side. Born June 9, 1933 in Wasioja Township and raised in that area until 12 years of age, he then moved around the area with his father but graduated from Dodge Center High School.

Eugenia Woroncow, a longtime resident of South River, N.J., passedaway peacefully on Thursday, June 3, 2021, at the age of 102, at Fairview Care Center in Dodge Center, where she had lived since 2012.Eugenia Anisimovna Kuzmenkova was born on Nov. 15, 1918 inDemidov, Smolenskaya Oblast, in Russia: a region which was later occupied by Nazi troops during World War II.

Corn is screaming in the field as hot weather invades southeastern Minnesota and causes a growth surge following our cool, wet May weather.
Corn that was only a few inches a week or so ago is now a foot or more tall. It’s crazy to watch the surge. Who knows, corn may reach “knee high by July 4” if things continue to heat up and nature chips in with it a bit of rain.

After two weeks of rainouts Chateau Speedway got back into the swing of things Friday Night with Mother Nature changing things up and turning up the heat. Temperatures around 90 degrees made for a warm evening at the track and the drivers turned up the heat themselves as there was plenty of hot action.  

Kasson-Mantorville’s KoMets traveled to Winona Tuesday, June 1, evening to take on the Winhawks in a section 1AAA elimination game.
In the top of the 1st inning, the KoMets were able to get runners on 1st and 2nd after singles from Mitch Nelson and Gavin Giesler but left them stranded. Winona responded with 2 bases runners of their own but Kellen Wilke stuck out the final batter of the inning to leave them stranded as well.

Truman Sogge was the ninth of 10 siblings born in 1931 near Regal, Minn., in the Paynesville and Spicer area.

Kasson native Ryan Christensen is joining the Kasson City Council, having been designated for appointment on May 26. He was scheduled to be sworn in Wedesday night.
Christensen graduated from Kasson-Mantorville High School in 2001. For eight years he and his wife Angela lived nearby in Mantorville, and he served on the city council there for two of those eight years.
