The Panthers found a slow start against the boys from Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial, but controlled the second half, shutting down the Knights 24-6. 

After finishing seventh in the Mega Meet at Milaca, Blooming Prairie cross-country runner Alec Ille did even better at the Blooming Prairie Invitational on Sept. 29. He captured first place, leading the Blossom team to a second place in the eight-team meet. Mankato Loyola/Cleveland won both divisions of the meet.

Kasson is one step closer to finding a city administrator. The search committee interviewed four applicants seeking the position on Sept. 29. In January, the Kasson City Council voted 3-2 to fire previous City Administrator Randy Lenth, who had served in the position for nine years.

Nearly three years ago I ventured into purchasing my second newspaper with the News Enterprise in West Concord. I had high hopes of turning around what had been a struggling newspaper in many ways. From the start we completed a major overhaul of the newspaper, including redesigning the pages, adding full color to many pages, increasing news and sports coverage and improving writing and photography.

Last week was a big week for downtown as the “new” Kasson Variety Store opened up along with two other businesses housed under the same roof, Jan’s Costumes of Kasson and Kasson Laser Graphics. The Kasson Chamber of Commerce celebrated the event with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Sept. 29 followed by an afterhour’s social.

Beginning Nov. 1, the News Enterprise will be merged into its sister publication, the Dodge County Independent. Declining readership and reduced advertising revenue are the main factors leading to the merger. For the past three years, readership has declined, despite numerous efforts to provide a quality newspaper by the current ownership.

The Kasson-Mantorville boys soccer team battled through a rough stretch this week as they dropped a pair of games. The struggles began with last Saturday’s 1-0 loss to Waseca at home and continued on the road against Red Wing on Tuesday night.  Against the Wingers, the KoMets were playing without senior captain and leading scorer Andy Plein for the second straight game.

The Kasson-Mantorville KoMet football team drew a huge crowd for its annual Homecoming game on Friday night as it looked to carry the momentum from last week’s thrilling victory over Byron in front of hometown fans.Unfortunately, the Cannon Falls Bombers had other ideas and picked up a shocking 14-10 victory over the KoMets.The game started well for the KoMets as they were able to get an interception on the Bombers’ first drive.
