Kasson Marine gets a once in a lifetime opportunity in D.C.

When Adam Bernards decided to join the military he never dreamed that it would land him in Washington, D.C. watching over the White House. 
“For me it was always humbling to have the opportunity to walk into the West Wing every day and just see all of the history every single day,” Bernards said. “That is an experience that most people don’t ever get to see in their life and I got to see it for two years every single day,” 

Cobras pick up first win of the season

The Triton girls basketball team has been searching for their first win through the first month of the season, but has found little success. Whether it be poor shooting, turnovers or a stroke of bad luck, the Cobras haven’t been able to find their way into the left-hand column in 2015.

Wildcats take out Apple Valley to win Warroad Tournament

The Dodge County Wildcats are poised to make a run in February’s state tournament, but their final game in the Warroad tournament on Dec. 29 served as a final reminder that the biggest part of the season is yet to come. With the 8-2 victory over Apple Valley, the Wildcats came from behind and showed the brand of hockey they need to play down the stretch.

Take a winter break at Healthy Living Expo Saturday

Saturday, Jan. 9 from 1 to 5 p.m., Dodge Refreshed is holding the third annual Healthy Living Expo in the West Gym at Triton High School. It is an opportunity to give blood, dispose of old and outdated medications, get some good health information and have fun.
The Red Cross will be collecting blood. 
The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office will be taking old and outdated drugs and medicines for safe disposal.

DNR hires new big game program leader

The point person for management of Minnesota’s deer, elk and moose populations and hunting seasons for deer and elk will be Adam Murkowski. He starts Monday, Jan. 11, as big game program leader for the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

Jack (LeRoy) Maurice Starkson, 71, of Wasioja, MN passed away on Dec. 30, 2015, in Rochester, MN.
A celebration of life for Jack (LeRoy) Maurice Starkson was held Saturday, Jan. 2, 2016, at Czaplewski Family Funeral Home in Dodge Center.  Interment will be in Wildwood Cemetery in the spring.

Steele County teams back in action

Now that the annual holiday vacation is complete for another year, the area high school sports teams are ready to dive back into action.  With the winter season now almost half over, some exciting contests remain on the schedule for four area schools.
