Richard “Penny” D. Nelson, 81, died Sept. 21, 2016, at St John’s Lutheran Retirement Community. 

Arno Frederick Moenning, 94, passed away after a long and fulfilling life on Sept. 20, 2016, at Fairview Care Center in Dodge Center, where he had resided for the last 11 and a half years.

The City of Owatonna will tentatively begin pick-up of sandbags starting September 30, 2016. City of Owatonna residents looking to dispose of both contaminated (in contact with water) or non-contaminated (no contact with water) sandbags must contact 507-444-2454 to arrange pick up. Residents will need to move bags to the right-of-way and pile on the right corner of their property facing their home.

Unusually good weather for a cross-country meet treated the Blossom cross country boys well, as they finished second to Mankato Loyola/Cleveland in an 8- team invitational meet at New Richland Tuesday.    Twin City United claimed third, with Lyle-Pacelli, and Maple River following.  WEM, NRHEG, and Madelia-Truman trailed in that order.  TCU won the girls’ division, with only five complete teams in the meet.

Both leaders in local government and the community gathered in Austin at the Considering Main Street workshop to learn about a program that could revitalize downtown Kasson.
“I’ve been aware that there is interest in downtown revitalization and thought the program might be a good fit for the community,” Kasson City Administrator Theresa Coleman said. “The workshop is an opportunity for community members feel the same.”
