After weeks of waiting an opportunity finally arrived for the Kasson-Mantorville softball team to hold its season opener. While the opportunity didn’t come without some pulling of strings to have its matchup with Triton switched from a home game to a road contest, the KoMets showed that it was worth the wait slugging four home runs in a 10-0 victory over the Cobras.

The Dodge County chapter of the American Dairy Association (ADA) crowned two young ladies as Dairy Princesses on Friday evening during a banquet at the Milton Township Town Hall.
Approximately 65 attended the banquet and enjoyed a meal prepared by Omar’s Kitchen Catering from West Concord.
Hannah Elias,from Mantorville, and Bailey Delzer, from Dodge Center, will represent the county’s dairy farmers for the next year.

James Edward Engvall, 61, of Hastings, died Monday, April 2, 2018 at United Hospital in St. Paul. 
He was born March 8, 1957 in Owatonna the son of Victor and Betty (Bell) Engvall.  Jim graduated from West Concord High School and attended Mankato State University. He moved back to West Concord, where he farmed with his parents and worked at Foldcraft and Cannon Equipment. He married DeAnn Casselton June 29, 1996.  

My legs hurt, and my calves ache, but I think I'll be okay.
Walking in heels is harder than most people would think, and I believe women don’t get enough credit for doing it all day. I only did it for approximately three hours and I can attest. It isn’t pleasant. 
Standing in heels for two hours is bad enough, but walking in them is a completely other thing. 

It has been quite a year as managing editor of the DCI. 

It didn't last long.
After only two months, a major grocery chain is back inserting its weekly specials into area newspapers and shopper publications. The chain had pulled the inserts at the beginning of the year. I am purposely leaving out the name of the chain because it really doesn't matter.

Kasson-Mantorville graduate Jason Rhoten was honored last month when he was inducted into the NCAA Division II Wrestling Coaches Association Hall of Fame. Rhoten had a tremendous collegiate career at Minnesota State, Mankato which was capped off by winning the national championship at 157 pounds in 2008.

The Kasson-Mantorville powerlifting team held its final meet of the season by traveling to Appleton, Wisconsin for the USAPL National High School Powerlifting Meet from March 22-25. The four day meet featured 600 lifters from across the nation as well as six females and three males representing K-M.

Triton High School FFA members were recognized April 3 during the Region VIII FFA awards program in Pine Island.
The event brought members from across southeast Minnesota together to celebrate their success. 
The first Triton FFA member to be awarded was Timothy Moenning, for the development of his beef herd. He earned a gold rating and won the Beef Production Entrepreneurship category.
