There is a contest for everyone at the fair

Milking cows. Baking pies. A new hotdish. Eating. Hula hoops. Quilt blocks.
Whatever you like to do, there is probably a contest related to it at the Dodge County Fair.
Contest activities get under way on Wednesday, July 17, with a milking cow competition scheduled for 3 p.m.

Dodge Center Seventh Day Baptist Church celebrates 160th anniversary

The Dodge Center Seventh Day Baptist Church is celebrating its 160th anniversary on Sabbath (Saturday), June 29th. Pastor Bill Shobe is planning an opportunity for covenant renewal in the Sabbath morning worship service at 9:30 a.m. that day.

Dodge County native builds most efficient home in nation

For his entire life, Berne native Dave Derby has always been in the construction business. 
For the last 18 years he has owned his own business, Derby Builders out of Rochester. 
Earlier this year Derby, won perhaps the most prestigious honor of his career thus far, when a house that his company built was named the 2019 Best Home Energy Rating Score in the Nation for a Custom Built Home. 

Program supports farmers unable to plant

Mower County farmers not able to plant their crops this season due to flooded or wet fields can sign up through mid-July for a federal program that will help them plant cover crops on those acres.

Lions Park in West Concord starting to take shape

It’s been difficult because of the weather, but Lions Park in West Concord is starting to get its new look.
“It’s been coming along good,” West Concord Maintenance Director Keith Clammer said last week, at least until the rains came. “We’ve gotten a lot done when it’s dry.”

New Lions Club forming in WC

 
A public meeting will be held Wednesday, June 19, at West Concord City Hall to present information to the community about a proposal to form a new Lions Club in West Concord. The meeting will start at 7 p.m. and last about an hour.
District Governor-Elect Dale Lipke of Byron, Minn., and other Lions will be on hand to explain who Lions are and how they can serve the community.

Farm to Table Community Dinner set for June 23

There is still time to get your tickets for the first annual Dodge Refreshed Farm to Table Community Dinner on June 23 but you will have to hurry. The deadline to purchase tickets is June 17.
The dinner, which will be at Coop’s Event Barn in Dodge Center,  is an opportunity to enjoy a meal prepared by Omar’s Kitchen from local sources.
