USMTS drivers were hunting the biggest single payout in Chateau Speedway history May 28 as 42 cars signed in looking for the $10,000 first place prize.
The race was the first of a four night swing through the area for the high powered Modifieds. It had been six years since the series had visited Lansing. Since the first appearance in 2001, they have made 20 appearances at the track with 15 drivers sharing those past wins.
Volleyball Bears handle TigersByron’s volleyball team defeated the Medford Tigers, 3-1, last Tuesday, September 7. Set scores were 25-13, 25-6, 13-25, and 25-23.
Byron’s boys soccer team was unable to find the win column last week, while playing on the road and taking on two tough teams; in Pine Island-Zumbrota-Mazeppa (PIZM) and Winona.
On Tuesday, September 7, the Bears battled PIZM to a 2-2 tie. PIZM is one of the top teams in the HVL and also in Section 1 class A.
It was a mixed week for area high school football teams as the KM KoMet’s defeated Winona and Byron and Triton both came up short. Hayfield’s game with Faribault’s Bethlehem Academy was postponed to Monday night.
It was a showdown in Kasson between perennial powerhouses last Friday night, September 3. The KoMets welcomed in the Byron Bears, and handed their guests a 31-7 loss. Kasson-Mantorville exploded out of the locker room and posted 17 first-quarter points. They added 14 more in the second stanza, and that was plenty to send the Bears packing.
2020 has presented many obstacles and KM football is learning to face those obstacles head on. Covid-19 has struck their football schedule yet again.
