I remember sitting in my office in Grand Rapids, MI on a cool September morning, working on rewrites for a novel I was crafting. A phone call. A plane crash into one of the twin towers in New York.
I just figured it to be a freaky, “oh that’s interesting” story, when I heard the words that took me from the pages of my passion to the front page of America. “Another plane just hit the other tower.”

As memories fade of the horrifying 9/11 attacks with many people, the lingering effects continue to take a toll on the public safety heroes who handled the search and rescue efforts.  
What many people don’t realize is the emergency responders who survived the horrible tragedy that killed thousands are just now beginning to suffer devastating diseases from the aftermath of the World Trade Center disaster. 

After eight years of service to the City of Kasson, Chief of Police Ken Schuck will retire from the Kasson Police Department.
Schuck presented his letter of resignation to the Kasson City Council at the July 13 meeting. He will continue to serve as police chief until Aug. 31. 

The park shelter that has been the center of controversy in Kasson for the past month was returned to the city only after the Minnesota State Auditor’s Office inquired about it.

With the 2016 legislative session over transportation remains the biggest outstanding issue facing the state, State Sen. Vicki Jensen told Dodge County Commissioners last week. Jensen addressed the board as part of her efforts to communicate with local government bodies in her district.
“I know the way it looked and felt,” Jensen said of the session. “Transportation is still the biggest outstanding issue we have.”

The Triton School Board officially went on record Monday night asking voters to approve an increase in general education revenue of $750 per pupil in a special election held in conjunction with the Nov. 8 general election.
The average amount levied by local districts in Minnesota is $1,000 and Triton currently levies $300 per pupil.
