Since the Dodge County Speedway closed its gates on a regular schedule in 2015, the venue has seen many attempts to try and get it back on its feet. This summer, promoter Chris Abts was the latest to take a crack at the tall task and rolled out a soft schedule to see what the market for racing was like in the area with a possibility for an expansion down the road.

Somewhere around 170 tractors and drivers came into West Concord Sunday noon, stopping for lunch at Boe Auto Center before heading out of town and back to Pine Island.
It was all a part of the 11th annual “Tractor Drive” sponsored by the Pine Island Lions Club and by all accounts the day was a great success.

A public hearing covering four different ordinances drew comments from several residents at the Mantorville city council meeting Monday night. For months, council members have discussed the wording of different ordinances governing land use in the town and they were ready to make a decision about the ordinances after the public hearing.

A Wellhead Protection Plan public hearing drew little public comment at last week’s West Concord City Council session.
Wellhead Protection Plans are required by the state, City Engineer Joe Palen said, and are designed to protect public health. The first phase of the plan was completed in February of 2015, he said, and the second phase was now ready for council approval.

A routine presentation on results of state-mandated test scores led to Board Member Tracy Petersohn asking if the board was spending enough time discussing the results.
Middle School Principal Luke Lutterman, who is also the district’s assessment coordinator, said that the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments or MCAs are just one piece or tool used to measure growth.

When you’re in a conference that boasts powerhouse programs like Ohio State and Michigan State, a 6-7 season is just not going to cut it. However, back in May, first year Head Coach Tracy Claeys said that last season was just a hiccup in the road to prominence. 
“I believe this is our best football team since we’ve been here,” he said. 

In a couple of weeks, the KassonPublic Library will finally get to open the doors to its new building.
On Aug. 27, the KPL will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony for its new building. After about three years of work, the new KPL building will be home to the current library of books, as well as a number of new perks for the Kasson community.
