Legion breakfast supports cancer telethon

They were serving up French toast, pancakes, scrambled eggs and sausages at the West Concord American Legion Post Sunday morning. The Post serves breakfast to the public every Sunday morning but this past Sunday’s event was special.
One hundred percent of the proceeds were donated to the Eagles Cancer Telethon, a long-running event in southern Minnesota scheduled for this weekend.

Take a winter break at Healthy Living Expo Saturday

Saturday, Jan. 9 from 1 to 5 p.m., Dodge Refreshed is holding the third annual Healthy Living Expo in the West Gym at Triton High School. It is an opportunity to give blood, dispose of old and outdated medications, get some good health information and have fun.
The Red Cross will be collecting blood. 
The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office will be taking old and outdated drugs and medicines for safe disposal.

DNR hires new big game program leader

The point person for management of Minnesota’s deer, elk and moose populations and hunting seasons for deer and elk will be Adam Murkowski. He starts Monday, Jan. 11, as big game program leader for the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

Central Valley merging with Truman

Central Valley Cooperative, headquartered in Owatonna, will be merging with WFS (Watonwan Farm Service), a cooperative based in Truman, the two cooperatives announced last week.

Triton approves 2016 tax levy

Residents of the Triton School District will see the school portion of their 2016 tax bill decreasing by 13.5 percent after the school board approved a final 2015 Payable 2016 levy certification of $2,092,984 compared to a 2015 budget of $2,419,683.
Broken down by fund, the 2016 levy includes $1,176,790 for the General Fund, $120,235 for the Community Service Fund and $795,959 for Debt Redemption.

Triton Knights of Columbus contribute to SEMCAC

The Knights of Columbus of Triton Council 4097 sold wreaths this Christmas season as part of their KC principles of Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism. The proceeds of that sale went to help the Dodge County Food Bank meet the needs of residents of Dodge County. The Knights, members of the parishes of St. Vincent de Paul in West Concord, St. Francis de Sales in Claremont and St.
