The sap was running on a rainy morning recently as the kindergarten classes at Triton Elementary School boarded the buses for the “Sugar Shack.”
The Sugar Shack is a small building on Billie and Jeff Cowell’s property in rural Claremont. It is there that the sap collected from the maple trees is boiled down into syrup.

An Eagle Scout project, awarding seal coat bids and the results of a water tank inspection were among the items discussed at the most recent West Concord City Council meeting last week.

As Cody Snow, 29, works his field on the outskirts of Kasson, he notes the positive.
“We have good moisture for planting,” he said. “It is making for good germination.”
Snow has a concern shared by most farmers, though. This field corn farmer is concerned about the future moisture.
“I’m hoping for a good season,” he said. “But we are hearing it is supposed to be a hot, dry summer. That would create some problems.”

The Triton Elementary School kindergarten classes eagerly headed outside recently as they prepared to test the packages they had designed that would ensure that a raw egg could survive a drop from the roof of Triton Elementary to the ground below.
The students, with the help of their parents, took to the project with enthusiasm, bringing their packages to class on the appointed day.

Needed street improvements and an update on the wastewater treatment plant were among the topics discussed by the Claremont City Council at their April meeting last week.
Councilmember Marie Lindblom, a member of the Public Works Committee, gave an update on the streets the committee has determined are in need of repair.

Triton High School FFA members were recognized at the Region VIII banquet at Zumbrota-Mazeppa High School last week including Brianna Fitzgerald as Region VIII Star Farmer and a finalist for state Star Farmer and Jack Crowson as Region Star in Agribusiness.
