Then & Now

In 1949 Kasson and Mantorville each had their own school with the Raiders and Indians sports teams. Mantorville played their football games at Mantor field north of the school and Kasson on the field at West Park by 8th Avenue NW. When Kasson-Mantorville was consolidated with the K-M school built in 1958, the new field by the school was used for many years until the present field was built.

I Thought I Was Rich

Enner Fjerstad from Kasson has written over 100 different religious songs. Here is one of her songs that tells a story which she sang recently during a church service.
I Thought I Was Rich
Thought I was rich, thought I had everything.
Big fancy car and a whole lot of things.
People looked up to me in my mansion on a hill,
the envy of others they talk about it still.

Then & Now

Movie theaters were available each evening in our communities including the Dodge Theater in Dodge Center, Westcon in West Concord, Metro Theater in Pine Island and the State Theater in Kasson. Harold’s Club took over the theater in Dodge Center in 1974. The State Theater in Kasson opened in 1937 and closed down in the late 1960’s and two churches held their services in the building until they built their own church buildings in Kasson.
