Wrestler earns 100th win despite injury that could have ended his career

The New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva wrestler who feared he might never wrestle again just got his 100th win. 
On Jan. 16, senior Cordell Peterson pinned his opponent within the first period during a team tournament in Lake Mills, Iowa. 
“It feels pretty great, because not many people can say they ever get their hundredth win,” Peterson stated. 

Winifred Mae Hansen, 90, Eden Prairie

Winifred Mae Hansen, age 90, of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, formerly of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, died Friday evening, Jan. 22, 2016 at LuAnn’s Place in Eden Prairie.
Winifred Mae Paschke was born May 3, 1925, the daughter of Ewald and Alma (Erdmann) Paschke in Blue Earth, Minnesota.  She attended school in Blue Earth. 

Reese Elizabeth Berg is Dodge County’s First Baby of the Year

Farran and Phillip Berg, of Dodge Center, officially welcomed their first child Reese Elizabeth Berg into the world on Jan. 6, 2016 at 4:58 p.m. thus making her Dodge County’s First Baby of the Year. The contest states that the baby must be born on or after Jan. 1, 2016 and the parents must reside within the boundaries of Dodge County.

Wildcats hold ‘Stick it to Cancer’ event

The Dodge County Wildcats held their fourth annual “Stick it to Cancer” event on Saturday afternoon in an effort to raise funds for the Eagles Cancer Telethon. This year’s event generated $2,500 worth of donations and was presented to the telethon on Saturday night.

Dodge County Board transfers land to Rochester Habitat for Mantorville home

Dodge County commissioners have agreed to transfer a parcel of land owned by the county in Mantorville to the Rochester Habitat for Humanity for the newest habitat-built home in the county.
The land transfer was approved at last week’s County Board meeting.

K-M/Triton continues to raise its own bar

Pine Island Winter Fest set for Jan. 30

 
Chilly, snowy days and the beautiful winter wonderland that surrounds us offer different ways to play and enjoy the out of doors. 
Pine Islanders will celebrate the season Saturday, Jan. 30 with a third annual “Winter Fest”. 
The festivities include luminary-lit ski and snowshoe trails, bonfires, ice skating, storytelling, a free family movie, a winter environmental class and a chili and soup feed!
