Thomas Paul Heymann , 67, Kasson

Tom Heymann, 67, of Kasson, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on July 4, 2016, after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s Disease with Lewy Body dementia. He was diagnosed in 2003.

Longtime sheriff Hildebrandt dies

A longtime public safety warrior in Steele County will always be remembered as a sheriff with one of the most infectious laughs.  
William “Bill” Hildebrandt of Claremont died July 5 at the age of 78. He served an unprecedented number of years as Steele County’s sheriff from 1982 to his retirement in 2002.

OFFICIALS: KILLING METH-RELATED

With his hands bound with nylon cord, Richard Jurgensen was shot multiple times at close range in what is being described as an execution-style slaying. 
Those chilling details were revealed for the first time in court documents against two men charged in the murder of Jurgensen, 22, of Medford. Authorities are calling it a drug-related homicide between all parities involved, including the victim.

Conservation Corps work on Mantorville Dam

On July 1, a group of young volunteers helped to build environmental awareness in Mantorville. 
The Summer Youth Conservation Corps of Minnesota will spend four weeks in Mantorville to help remodel the area around the dam. The first group, who worked for two weeks, laid down concrete pads. The next group, that is working in Mantorville now, will put down picnic table, kiosks and benches. 

Dodge Center earns four-game winning streak

As the host city of Triton High School, the sport of baseball hasn’t been a strong suit for Dodge Center in 2016. The Cobras finished with just a pair of wins on the season thanks to a lineup that was learning to play at the varsity level. However, the season was more of a process to prepare the team to compete as they continue to grow.
