Marlyss Jeanne Thompson, 89, of Hayfield passed away on June 5, 2018, at Mayo Clinic Hospital St. Mary's Campus in Rochester. 
Marlyss Jeanne was born on July 10, 1928, the daughter of Claude Ray  and Sarah Etta (Babcock) Uptagrafft in rural West Concord.

George Maurice Lally, 96, Kasson

George Maurice Lally, 96, of Kasson, passed away June 8, 2018, at Fairview Care Center in Dodge Center.
George was born on Jan. 9, 1922, in Mazeppa  to Maurice and Cora (Baker) Lally. He attended high school in Mantorville, graduating in 1939. On July 18, 1942, he married Mavis Smith in Claremont. From 1944-1946, he served in the Army, stationed in Munich, Germany.

Soon after Peggy Marquette moved to Kasson last August she came across Officer Julio Baez late one night. He assisted her in getting money from one of the banks. It was an encounter that left a lasting impression on her.
“We really liked him,” Marquette says. “He’s really a nice cop. He was such a happy guy with a big heart,” she said.

NEWS UPDATE: Kasson officer identified in suicide attempt

Dodge County Sheriff Scott Rose has identified the Kasson police officer involved in a shooting incident last weekend as 51-year-old Julio Baez.
Baez remains in critical condition at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester. He is a 14-year veteran of the department. 
Rose said the case in being investigated as an attempted suicide by his investigators.

Arthur Lowell Tvedt, 88, Kasson

Arthur Lowell Tvedt, 88, of Kasson and formerly of Bryon, passed away suddenly on Friday, June 1, 2018, at Mayo Clinic Hospital St. Mary’s Campus in Rochester.  
Lowell was born on May 30, 1930, the son of Clarence and Lydia (Williams) Tvedt on the family farm in Canisteo Township, Dodge County. He enjoyed growing up on the farm and received an 8th grade education at Union Springs School.  

Larry McMartin, 81, Claremont

Larry James McMartin, 81, of Claremont, left this earth a kinder and gentler place because of his presence among us. He died Saturday, May 26, 2018, at home on the land that was homesteaded in 1856, and surrounded by those he loved most.

Anita Mae (Garness) Madery, 81, Kasson

Anita Mae (Garness) Madery, 81, passed away peacefully at Mayo Hospice in Rochester, on May 27, 2018, after a lengthy illness at home, where her family cared for her.
