Best selling author joins DCI staff

A writer who has authored a best selling book is the newest face leading the editorial team at the Dodge County Independent.
Scott Schulte of Milford, Connecticut has been named managing editor of the DCI, Publisher Rick Bussler announced. As managing editor, he will be responsible for coordinating the editorial staff and overall editorial content of the newspaper.

For U.S. student, Belgium attacks are heartbreaking

Kyrie Bussler is a journalism and political science major at the University of Missouri-Columbia. She has been studying abroad in Brussels, Belgium since January. Her father, Rick, is the publisher of the Independent.
On Tuesday, March 22, I woke up like any other morning during my semester abroad in Brussels, Belgium. 

Triton looks to build track program

For the Triton track team, their status toward the bottom of the HVL has been more of a numbers game. Their roster, which consists of 60 athletes, is roughly half of some of the other schools in the conference. That doesn’t mean that the Cobras lack talent as they head into the 2016 season.

Youthful Cobras look to play spoiler

When the Triton baseball team takes the field to open the 2016 season, the one thing that they won’t have is experience. The Cobras return just one starter from a season ago and will likely have an uphill climb in the strong HVL conference.
However, for what the Cobras lack in experience, they make up for with a youthful energy that could have them wreak havoc for teams competing for a conference title.

Triton board members try out heart monitors used in gym classes

Triton school board members got a first-hand look at the heart rate monitors used in middle school physical education classes last week.
Physical Education teacher Shane Van Beck passed out the monitors to each school board member and had board members wear them during his presentation, demonstrating how he could track each student’s numbers.
