Mantorville fire claims 1 life, sends 5 to hospital

A deadly fire in Mantorville last week killed one person, sent five others to the hospital and reignited over the weekend completely destroying the Chestnut Apartments.

Sheriff’s office releases name of Mantorville fire victim

Dodge County Sheriff Scott Rose has released the name of the individual who died in a fire this morning at the Chestnut Apartments in Mantorville.
“As of 4:50 p.m. today we have one confirmed fatality from the apartment building fire this morning. Our victim, 68-year-old Cynthia Ferguson, lived in apartment #11. Cause of death is unknown at this time.

An early morning fire at an apartment building in Mantorville has resulted in one known fatality and at least 5 people transported to Saint Marys in Rochester, according to Sheriff Scott Rose.

Russell ‘Russ’ Schandorff, 70, Stewartville

Russell “Russ” Schandorff, 70, of  Stewartville, died on Friday, Jan. 29, 2021, of natural causes at Mayo Clinic Rochester – Ssint Mary’s Campus.
He was born on Feb. 14, 1950 in Wasioja  to Claude and Olga (Rubin) Schandorff. He grew up 1 of 9 children in rural Rock Dell Township and attended Hayfield High Sschool. graduating in 1968.

Dorothy Vennetta Fitzgerald, 82, West Concord

Dorothy V. Fitzgerald, 82, of West Concord, died Friday, Jan. 29, 2021 at Benedictine Living Community in Owatonna surrounded by her family.
She was born Aug. 13, 1938 in Vale, Oregon the daughter of Merrill and Lydia (Morris) Pettis. Dorothy lived throughout the United States with her family until settling in West Concord. She graduated from West Concord High School in 1957.

Boyd Demmer, 94, formerly of Hayfield

Boyd Demmer, 94, formerly of Hayfield, passed away on Feb. 1, 2021.
Visitation will be 12:30 – 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, 2021, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 104 1st Street SE in Hayfield with the funeral service at 2 p.m.  Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Hayfield.

It was a good week for Wildcat hockey

It was a good week for Dodge County Wildcat hockey as both the girls’ and boys’ team won two games each.
The girls brought their overall season record to 4-1-0 with victories over Hopkins/St. Louis Park, 5-1, on Tuesday, January 26, and New Prague, 3-1, on Saturday, January 30. The boys defeated Hopkins on Tuesday,  3-2, and New Prague on Saturday bringing their record to     .
