Board split on proposed levy amount

The Kasson-Mantorville School Board used a June 29 special meeting to put a funding referendum question on the ballot in November, but the 5-2 vote indicates some concerns.
Debate on the referendum, which would stop painful cuts at the district, centered around two options: a $400- or $500-per student levy amount.

Byron woman named 90th Miss Minnesota

Anna Brennan, a member of the Byron High School Class of 2024, was crowned as the 90th Miss Minnesota during a ceremony at Treasure Island Resort & Casino last weekend.
As Miss Minnesota, Brennan will represent Minnesota at the 2027 Miss America competition and will receive a $10,000 educational scholarship.

Dodge County Sheriff opposes possible spike to jail housing costs

Dodge County is one of only eight Minnesota counties that doesn’t have its own jail. Instead, the county contracts with neighboring Olmsted County Detention Center, paying a $75 per diem per detainee rate set by the Minnesota Sheriff’s Association (MSA).
Olmsted County Commissioners questioned that set rate during the June 16 Administrative Committee meeting, citing rising costs and increased budget demands.

‘Two Putz for the Win’ kicks off  the melodrama season at MTC

Actors for the upcoming MTC show Two Putz for the Win bring to life the family melodrama about the Putz family and their Putz Putter Golf Company. The show runs June 12-28 Fridays and Saturdays at 7 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. at the Mantorville Opera House.

MRA and FD  come together in new gambling agreement

The Mantorville Restoration Association and Mantorville Fire Department Relief Association will combine their charitable gambling fundraisers moving forward through pull tabs, e-tabs, bingo and other charitable gambling activities to raise funds for both organizations.
