Even though Kasson-Mantorville track and field coach Jared Pittman took over the program this spring, the argument could be made that his work has made an impact long before succeeding Eric Myran.

Back toward the beginning of the season, the Kasson-Mantorville baseball team traveled to Lake City for its second game of the young schedule. Always believing it had the talent to compete with the best in the Hiawatha Valley League, the KoMets were a confident bunch as they looked to face the Tigers in their conference opener.

Kasson-Mantorville High School counselor Shelly Bielen has received the Southeast Minnesota School Counselor Association’s award for Secondary School Counselor of the Year.
She was recognized at the SEMSCA awards banquet on April 11. SEMSCA is a regional division of the Minnesota School Counselors Association. It provides opportunities for professional development and networking to members. 

 
The Spring Cleaner of All Spring Cleaners has been gone for a while, but she must be cleaning in Heaven, too, ‘cause I think I still hear her telling me to move my feet or she’ll suck me right up into the vacuum.
Swear I smell Mr. Clean, Comet, and Lysol.

A Triton High School graduate is being held in the Lawrence County, Ind. Security Center on several charges, including murder.
Evan James Franklin Schaffer, 22, formerly of Mantorville, was charged with the murder of Justin Lampkins, 25, during an argument April 23 at a McDonald’s restaurant in Bedford, Ind.

The search for a violent offender from northern Minnesota caused some tense moments at Hayfield Public School on the afternoon of Friday, May 5.
Dodge County sheriff’s deputies locked down the exterior of the school as a precaution after receiving information that a violent offender may have been heading to the school to pick up his child.

Beth Hodgman continues pushing to make Highway 14 safer.
The West Concord woman spoke with reporters last week in Rochester, urging lawmakers to include funding for improvements on the highway, which shrinks from four lanes to two lanes between Dodge Center and Owatonna.

Al-Corn CLean Fuel CEO Rany Doyal said he's waiting for general contractor McGough Construction to get comfortable with its current project, expanding Al-Corn's ethonal plant near Claremont. 
“I got a call from Tim Dunnwald (McGough’s general manager for industrial projects), and he said, ‘Rand, I think we’re there,’” Doyal said. “I gave him about 10 seconds and I said, ‘Are you done yet?’ I do that almost every day.”
