The Friends of the Kasson Public Library held its annual meeting for members and guests on Saturday, Feb. 3 in the community room at the library.
Brunch was provided by Omar’s Kitchen, West Concord. 
President Will Lambert opened the meeting and welcomed members and guests, including Kasson City Mayor Chris McKern, city councilmen Lonnie Zelinski and Dan Eggler, and former member Lori Hopkins. 

Dodge County residents gathered for precinct caucuses on Feb. 6 to choose their preferences for the 2018 governor’s election.
Seventy-nine Democratic Farmer Labor members met at Triton High School in Dodge Center.

Phil and Sherry Heydt were named 2017 Citizens of the Year on Feb. 10 during the Hayfield Chamber of Commerce’ 32nd-annual Citizen of the Year banquet, at Hayfield American Legion Post 330.
“Everybody told us the award was for Brad, Phil said, referring to his son, Hayfield-area farmer Brad Heydt. “They lied to us. Unbelievable. We never even considered it was us.”
“It’s quite an honor,” Sherry Heydt said.

Dodge County Planning Commission members on Feb. 7 approved the amending of administrative language regarding commissioner term limits and animal feedlot registration and permits, among other items.
Commission members have 3-year terms. Appointments are made so no more than three and no fewer than one commissioner’s term is filled at the beginning of each calendar year. 

Kasson-Mantorville High School’s Cyber Club is off to a nice start in its first season.
K-M teams placed first and second in state competition in their division, and one of the teams placed 33rd out of 445 teams nationally.
The students competed virtually at K-M on Feb. 11 against about 145 teams from the U.S. and Canada in the competition, which focuses on learning cyber security measures.

Bernice L. Lermon, 93, of Dodge Center, found her way home to be with her husband John, and son David, along with her parents, brothers, and sisters on Feb. 4, 2018.

Allen Dennis Johnson, 93, of Blooming Prairie, passed away Monday, Jan. 29, 2018 at Prairie Manor Care Center in Blooming Prairie. 
Allen Dennis Johnson was born on Jan. 2, 1925 in rural Blooming Prairie on the family Century Farm to Elmer and Edna (Dennis) Johnson. He attended District 47 country school and Blooming Prairie High School. At a young age Allen’s father died and he began working on the farm. 

My baby cousin, Harper, was born exactly a week befroe my birthday. Between Oct. 10 and Oct. 17 I feel as if I'm allowed to celebrate for a week straight.
Harper is a lot like how you would imagine most 4-year-olds, but somehow she's just a little bit more. I don't typically hang out with children, but somehow Harper makes complete sense to me.

Today, Feb. 8, is national Laugh and Get Rich Day, according to the good folks at timeanddate.com, a website featuring good-humored holidays for every day of the week. (Jan. 7 was “Old Rock Day,” Jan. 17 was “Ditch New Year’s Resolution Day,” Jan. 20 was “Penguin Awareness Day,” and Jan. 21 was “Squirrel Appreciation Day”).
