The Triton school board made its decision on a new activities director during the school board meeting on March 19 as Shane Van Beek will take over the role effective July 1. Van Beek will succeed Don Henderson, who has been in the role for 28 years and announced his retirement last fall.

Kasson-Mantorville Elementary School students got plenty of exercise and helped raise money on March 22 during a Boosterthon ‘Glow Run’ at the school.
The event, sponsored by the K-M Parent Teacher Association, had the youngsters racing at top speed in a circle and through a large inflatable tunnel amidst flashing lights, spurred on by teachers, family and friends as music played.

The murder of a man found shot to death at a rural Blooming Prairie home has prompted a statewide manhunt for his 56-year-old wife and her vehicle.
On Monday afternoon, Dodge County Sheriff Scott Rose said the Southern Minnesota Regional Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as David Riess, 54, of Blooming Prairie. Rose said Riess died as a result of “multiple gunshot wounds.” 

The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office has identified the man killed in a single vehicle crash north of Mantorville Friday.
The sheriff’s office says Daniel Escalera, 48, of rural Mantorville died when his vehicle left the roadway and rolled over around 10:30 a.m. Friday. Escalera was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.
An autopsy is still pending, according to the sheriff’s office

Marilyn Burnette Svenby, 81, passed away on March 18, 2018, at Mayo Clinic Hospital St. Mary’s Campus in Rochester.
Marilyn was born on Oct. 3, 1936, in Lockhart, Minn., to Alfred and Sophie (Ellingson) Thronson. Her youth was spent on the farm in Waukon Township in rural Gary Minn. 

As a tyke I stood in our backyard at home and joined my mom in chatting up neighbors over the fences.
 
To the south was Ella Mae, a feisty lady whose garage smelled like apples and who paid me $4 to mow her lawn and shovel her walk and driveway. That was more than enough cash for a kid to buy candy and baseball cards at our neighborhood grocery store.

Kasson-Mantorville school board members and the district’s teachers union, K-M Education Minnesota, agreed March 16 on contract language with five new district teachers, avoiding arbitration regarding contract grievances.
