The Kasson-Mantorville girs basketball team is starting to build momentum as it heads into February. The KoMets have been on a hot streak lately winning seven of their last eight games and with a convincing 84-74 victory over Stewartville on February 1, K-M is playing some of its best basketball of the season.

It was a big night for the Triton Girls Basketball team on February 1 as Kendra Petersohn scored her 1,000th career point against Goodhue. The junior guard became the first Triton girls basketball player in nearly 20 years to accomplish the feat when she sank a free throw late in the second half against Goodhue.

When people in Kasson and the surrounding  areas think about the history of the DCI, there’s one name that comes to mind.
The Carlsens.
That’s why during the annual Kasson Chamber of Commerce dinner meeting last month Folmer and Randy Carlsen were honored with the Legacy Award for their combined almost 100 years of dedication to the community.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz is pledging to make “One Minnesota” as he settles into his new role of leading this great state. He’s not just spewing campaign rhetoric, but seems committed to making it a way of operating his large administration.
I had the opportunity to hear Minnesota’s new governor speak a few weeks ago during the Minnesota Newspaper Association convention in Bloomington.

As a native of Rhode Island, I have to admit that I had to learn different terms when I moved to Minnesota.
I had to learn different terms like Uffda, had to learn that dinner time means noon hour, along with virtually a whole new vocabulary.
Even though we still speak primarily English in Rhode Island just like in Minnesota, words mean different things in Minnesota than they do in Rhode Island sometimes.

At their meeting Jan. 22, Byron school board members voted unanimously to close open enrollment for kindergartners for the next school year. In a later email, Superintendent Dr. Joey Page explained that the district has had to close open enrollment for at least one grade in recent years.
During the meeting, council members discussed the fact that their goal is to keep classrooms full but not too full.

Rose Mary Nelson of Annandale passed away on Jan. 25, 2019, at the age of 71 following a courageous battle with cancer.
A wake was held Wednesday, Jan. 30 at Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel in Annandale. Mass of Christian Burial was held on Thursday, Jan. 31 at 3 p.m. at St. Ignatius Catholic Church. There was a Celebration of Life reception after the funeral at Classic Hall Event Center in Annandale.

Duane Wayne Wohl, age 76 of Blooming Prairie, formerly of South Dakota, passed away Monday, Jan. 28, 2019 at his home.

Over the past few years,social media has become a very important tool for educators.
 
Through platforms like Facebook,Twitter,Pinterest and other platforms teachers are able to collaborate and get ideas from one and other.
 
One idea that formed recently for some Kasson-Mantorville Elementary School classrooms,is collecting donations,so they can provide a free book to each student every month.
