After losing both of their regular season games against Blooming Prairie (BP), the Hayfield boys’ basketball team was hoping the third time was the charm, but the Awesome Blossoms made sure that didn’t happen by controlling the second half and winning 59-51 on Thursday, March 12.
            The Vikings got off to an early 9-4 lead thanks to six points by Luke Dudycha.

Lewis “Doc” Severance, longtime Kasson, resident and businessman, died on March 7, 2020 in Park Rapids, at the age of 96.
He was born in a former boxcar near Vayland, SD on May 20, 1923 to Lewis Sr. and Gladys (Beyer) Severance. 
He graduated from Balaton  High School in 1941 and worked as a telegrapher and agent for the Chicago & Northwestern Railway Company. 

Dolores Irene Schletty Roberts passed away peacefully with her daughter by her side on Feb. 19, 2020 at Fairview Care Center in Dodge Center. 
She was born Sept. 15, 1929 to Lawrence and Edna Schletty in Concord Township. Dolores was the oldest of six siblings. 

In a 2016 video from a talk at Oxford University, (Michael) Bloomberg said, “I could teach anybody, even people in this room, no offense intended, to be a farmer.” The former New York City mayor continued, “It’s a process. You dig a hole, you put a seed in, you put dirt on top, add water, up comes the corn.”
Well, it’s not quite as simple as the former New York City mayor and 2020 presidential candidate made farming out to be.

Triton Business Professions of America (BPA) crowned a state champion, three national trip winners, and 11 top 10 finishers at the State Leadership Conference on March 5-7 in Minneapolis.
Triton had 17 members qualify to compete against more than 1,700 other students from across Minnesota at the State competition. 

Libraries in Dodge County have closed their doors temporarily as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
 “Out of an abundance of caution, and to protect staff and patrons we need to curtail social interactions” said City Administrator Timothy Ibisch. The library will continue to monitor the situation and will be closed until further notice. Updates will be provided via the Library Facebook page, Library website and the City website.

Kasson’s American Legion Post 333 held a solemn ceremony Sunday night to honor those veterans and members of the organization who had died over the past year. It was the post’s first-ever Post Everlasting Ceremony and packed the Legion hall with members, friends and family members of those remembered.

Local schools were working this week to accommodate students and their families following Gov. Tim Walz’ order on Sunday closing all public and private K-12 schools statewide for at least eight days in an effort to slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

I’ve only known him for 10 years, but as Sid Hartman, who turns 100 this week after 80 plus years in the radio and newspaper businesses, would say he’s a close personal friend.
