We've reached that time of the year when it's no longer socially acceptable to have Christmas or holiday decorations around the house.
A few families may persevere, but most families will be taking down the Christmas tree this weekenf if they haven't already.

About a month ago the 2017 contest winners for the National Newspaper Association's Better Newspaper Ediotrial Contest came out by Publishers' Auxiliary, a trade publication for newspapers across the country. As I was flipping through the special section, I was amazed at what I found on page 7.

With the Kasson-Mantorville/Triton gymnastics team starting to come into its own, there’s a lot of buzz when one of the perennial teams come to town for a meet. On January 4, that buzz was in the air as K-M-T hosted Pine Island/Zumbrota-Mazeppa. P-I-Z-M came into the meet ranked fourth in Class A and showed their prominence with a victory over K-M-T.

The youngsters were judged by K-M Elementary School principal Ariana Wright, Wayne Hendrickson of Kasson, and Bob Melin, commander of American Legion Post 333, which sponsors Pack 231.

Sydney Schultz has collected one accomplishment after another during her four years playing basketball for Owatonna, but the one she earned on Thursday may be the sweetest one yet.
The senior forward now stands at the top as the all-time leading scorer for the Huskies girls’ program after scoring 35 points in Owatonna’s 61-49 win over Rochester Mayo (3-7, 2-5). 

The Crisis Resource Center of Steele County is searching for volunteers to help when responding to victims of abuse and violence in the county’s rural areas like Blooming Prairie, Medford and Ellendale.
CRC Executive Director Sara Colby said the volunteers would be responsible for answering the 24-hour crisis line and responding to victims of child abuse, domestic violence and sexual assault when the center is closed.
