Like scores of others, Shanna McCann has set some goals for 2021 as the owner of goat milk soap business Simple Soaps for Simple Folks in Byron.
“My goals for 2021 are to be more mindful of the things that cause me stress, and to address the root causes of the stress,” McCann said.
Lots of people form New Year’s resolutions as McCann has done, but fewer follow through and find success with achieving them.

Sheriff’s chaplains help deal with traumatic events

In cases of deaths, conflicts and dealing with stresses of law enforcement, the chaplains of the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office are there to offer help and comfort.
A group of 10 specially trained pastors are on call in Dodge County to help residents deal with traumatic situations and to help law enforcement and first responders to deal with the stresses of their jobs.

Kasson-Mantorville school board takes massive pay cut

Kasson-Mantorville School Board members elected to take a massive pay cut for 2021, reducing their salaries to $1 per month and $1 per special meeting. In 2020, the board chairperson made $1,300 annually and the other school board members pocketed $1,000 each annually.

‘Smiling Moose’ coffee, gift shop to open in Kasson

Smiling Moose Gifts is planning to open this April at 408 Main Street in Kasson, which is the former Hy-Vee Pharmacy location. Owners Kim and Steve White plan to offer a general gift store and a drive-through coffee shop.

Richard Michael Buck, 70, West Concord

Our beloved dad and grandpa passed away on Dec. 10 after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Preceded in death by wife, Rhonda. He will be sadly missed by his children, Christina, Duane (Lisa) and Jessica (Mark); grandchildren, Issac, Xaiver, Max, Anton and Gus; other relatives and friends. 

Kerry Kyle Glarner, 87, West Concord

Kerry Kyle Glarner, age 87, of West Concord (Berne), passed away peacefully, after a brief illness, surrounded by his family on Friday, Jan. 1, 2021.
Kerry was born in rural West Concord (Berne) on Dec. 26, 1933 to Carl J. and Virginia (Platt) Glarner on the family farm. He was the youngest of six children. Kerry went to country school in grades 1-8 and graduated from West Concord High School in 1951.

Gail Loree Paulson, 65, Austin

Gail Loree Paulson, 65, of Austin, died Friday, Jan. 1, 2021, at Mayo Clinic Hospital, St. Marys Campus in Rochester.
She was born July 29, 1955, in Owatonna, the daughter of Gustav “LeRoy” and Helen (Knippel) Paulson. Gail loved her family, getting together for holidays and birthdays. Her smile and contagious joy always lit up the room.
