Ingvild Herfindahl was hired as the new library director at the Dodge Center Library earlier this year, replacing Angie Fern who had moved away.
Herfindahl had been the Kasson Library children’s librarian for several years when she decided to pursue her master’s degree in Library and Information Science. 

The Claremont City Council last week made several adjustments to its program to encourage construction of single-family residences in the Claremont Development.
The city owns 14 single-family lots that are available on a first-come, first-served basis for those who wish to build a home.

The Dodge Center Chamber of Commerce heard from one of their own last week as Mark Murch, with Scanlon, Murch and Associates, Whitewater Tax & Consulting, Inc. talked to the group about small business accounting.
The basic theme of his presentation was that “you may know your business but does your business entity reflect what is best for you.”

At the end of World War II, several West Concord families asked that a Catholic parish be started in town. Their wish was granted and in March of 1945, the first mass for a West Concord Catholic parish was held in a storefront on Main St. known as the Shuster building.

I sit in my cozy kitchen and write this column for not only the first issue of November but the first in the Dodge County Independent.  
Looking back, for many years those living in the area and others who moved away, continued to receive the local newspaper to let them know about their former hometown.

The Dodge County fairgrounds could serve as a place where truck drivers park their vehicles this winter if the city and fair board agree on who should plow the area.
