Worker killed in accident at Con-Tech

An employee at Con-Tech Manufacturing in Dodge Center was fatally injured in an accident at the plant Monday morning.
Dodge County Sheriff Scott Rose said dispatchers received a call from Con-Tech just after 10 a.m. reporting an employee had been crushed in an accident.
When deputies arrived at the scene at 10:10 a.m. they found Con-Tech staff doing CPR on the victim, 63-year-old Teofilo Gonzalez.
Co-workers explained that Gonzalez was cutting a crossbeam support on a dolly supporting a 5,000-pound mixer drum. When the dolly failed the mixer came down on Gonzalez. Co-workers used two forklifts to remove the drum so they could start CPR, Rose said.
Dodge Center Ambulance took over care when they arrived but were unable to save Gonzalez who was pronounced dead at 10:29 a.m., Rose said.
Gonzalez, who lived in Brownsdale, was a 10-year employee of Con-Tech.
Dodge County Sheriff’s chaplains were called in to help with family notifications as well as being there to support his co-workers and first responders on scene.
Dodge County Sheriff’s Deputies, Dodge County Ambulance, and Dodge Center Fire Department were the first responders on scene. Mayo One was unable to fly due to weather conditions. The Olmsted County Medical Examiner’s Office responded to assist with the death investigation.
Con-Tech advised they would be contacting the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regarding the fatal incident, Rose said.
