We’re open on Main Street

As chaotic as the holiday season can be during the month of December, the last thing one wants to cram into the schedule is a move. But that’s exactly what we did at the Dodge County Independent this past month.
Over the past few weeks, we have taken up our long-time roots on First Avenue for the Kasson Video Store location at 121 W. Main St. We have converted the former dollar store and video place into a newspaper office and print shop. Dodge County Printing made the move along with us, vacating the old creamery that had been home to both operations for nearly three-quarters of a century.
Luckily, for us we eked the move in without any major snow storms. In fact, we were so fortunate that there wasn’t even a speck of snow in sight. Not bad for a December move in Minnesota.
Since I took over the newspaper operation in July, we have done some major expansion and added several staff positions. After making those moves, it became apparent to me that staying in the old place was really not a viable option. The building just simply couldn’t serve our growing needs. On production days, we would be piled up on top of each other with really no where to turn in the old place. 
Once I realized staying put was longer going to work, I began making plans to reshape ourselves for the future. We needed to find a new home that would better serve citizens in the area for years to come.
