Triton football team falls to powerhouse Bombers
NEW PRAGUE — It was fun while it lasted for the Cobras’ football team. But the Cinderella run ended on Thursday, November 9, when the Cannon Falls Bombers quashed the Cobras’ dream of a state title.
Triton entered the post-season, 3-5, before stringing together three straight wins, to compete in its first state tournament since 2010. On Thursday, it was Cannon Falls in a 51-6 victory over the Triton boys, in the Class 2A state football quarterfinal round. Hence, Triton’s post-season flurry comes to an end. It’s a run that will have a lasting impact for second-year coach Brandon Neseth.
“I can’t say enough good things about our seniors, and the way the guys played tonight,” Neseth said. “We knew what type of team Cannon Falls was, and the success they’ve had in Class 3A…and obviously, a lot of success this season. I liked how our guys fought and how well they played.”
It was an 8-6 game entering the second quarter after Pierce Petersohn found Jayce Leonardo for a 28-yard passing touchdown. But alas, the Bombers took control, posting a 22-point second quarter and adding a dozen more tallies in the runaway.
