Sheriff’s Office receives fire suppression tools
“Law Enforcement is usually the first on scene to any emergency, including fires,” says Dodge County Sheriff Scott Rose. “Unfortunately, here in Dodge County, we’ve had our share of fires in the past, including the fatal apartment building fire in Mantorville a few years ago.”
The Portable Fire Suppression Tool (FST) is a new tool designed to be thrown into the fire, into a doorway or through a window to help suppress the fire and heat enough to help get victims out. Eight seconds after activation, these units generate a powered aerosol that expands to an area up to 5300 feet for approximately 35 seconds, helping reduce temperatures and suppress the fire in the area to help get victims out.
The Minnesota Masonic Charities learned about this equipment, purchased 100 of these units, and agreed to split the costs between the Charities Group and the Masons. This allowed local lodges like Kasson/Mantorville to raise funds and purchase these at a discounted rate to support their local law enforcement.
The local Kasson Mantorville Masonic Lodge/Kasson Mantorville Freemasons raised funds and purchased six of these portable fire suppression tools (approx. $1000 value each) and donated them to the Sheriff’s Office. Lodge Member Roger Berge was the local representative who contacted the Sheriff’s Office initially about these units.
The Sheriff’s Office will train the patrol staff on the use of these FST’s and get them deployed right away.
“On behalf of the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office and the communities we serve, we’d like to thank this amazing organization and these amazing people for their continued support for our staff and our citizens,” Rose said.
