Scofield set to retire from KPD at end of year

 
Decades ago Kasson Police Officer Gary Scofield began his career in law enforcement.
In a few weeks his career will be coming to an end after the city council accepted his retirement effective at the end of December.
For Scofield his career in law enforcement was very diverse as he held a number of different positions in law enforcement.
Scofield started his career in law enforcement working as a security guard at a state hospital, where he realized that law enforcement was his niche.
“I knew at that point it was my niche, and I decided to pursue it as a career,” Scofield said.
From there he was given a job in Hennepin County as a correctional officer where he worked while finishing up his degree.
After graduating with a law enforcement degree, he worked as a deputy sheriff for Sherburne County for more than six years, until something tragic happened.
While trying to save a state trooper’s life during an arrest gone wrong, Scofield had his knee kicked in from under him.
At that point doctors told him his career in law enforcement was over, and he wouldn’t be able to walk again most likely without a walker.
That news wasn’t going to stop him, however.
After going to Colorado for a few years working in different jobs in the law enforcement sector and rehabbing his body he knew after a few years he was able to be a police officer again.
And he did just that. “After a lot of years of hard work and perseverance, I was able to get back into police work again,” he said.
Eventually he found his way in Dodge County where he worked as a deputy sheriff for the county for three and a half years.
After working for over three years with the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office he was asked to apply for an opening with the Kasson Police Department.
Scofield saw it as a good opportunity and decided to accept the challenge.
“I thought it would be neat since I never worked for a city department before,” Scofield said.
While his time in law enforcement will be coming to an end soon, Scofield explained that he is very grateful that he got the chance to work in Kasson.
“This department is truly the best department I ever worked for,” he said with a smile on his face. “I love all the people here and I am going to miss them,” he added.
After many years in law enforcement, Scofield is looking forward to spending more time with his wife andenjoying his hobbies.
