Robb pins his way into Owatonna record book

Owatonna senior Peyton Robb added another impressive accolade to prep career on Saturday, Jan. 20 at the Hutchinson Invitational when he broke the school’s career pins record.
The previous record of 94. Robb now has 99 in his career and 24 this season. He has a chance to surpass the Owatonna single-season record of 34.
“Peyton Robb has put together a pretty remarkable career both here at Owatonna and in the offseason wrestling,” Owatonna coach Adam Woitalla said. “We are just extremely happy for [Robb]. He works tremendously hard and its great to see it pay off. It’s a pretty big accomplishment anytime you set a school record.”
Robb said it will be nice having his name in the record book as the Huskies’ career pins leaders, but it’s far from his ultimate goal.
“It means a lot, but it not as nearly as important as the goals I have set for the state tournament this year,” he said. “I want solidify my career with another state championship and that’s what I’m working for.”
Robb won state championship in 2016 at the 120-pound weight class and in 2015 at 106.
Robb said he wants to be remembered as a team player and as a role model, who helped the younger wrestlers.
“When I was seventh grade I was the in the varsity room, but I wasn’t the varsity starter,” he said. “Working with those older guys made me a lot better because they were so much bigger and they pushed me to my max and that really made me grow as a wrestler.”
HUSKIES WINs Pair AT HOME
Owatonna defeated Mankato East, 51-12, and Austin, 72-4, on Thursday in their first home matches of the year.
“We just kept the energy high and pushed through our matches,” Robb said. “It just felt good to wrestle and get some pins in front home crowd.”
Woitalla said the team came out and was aggressive from start to finish.
“That’s why the scores where they way they were,” he said. “Overall, we were very happy with how our kids wrestled.”
OWATONNA PLACES THIRD AT TOURNAMENT
The Huskies finished third at the Bloomington Tournament on Saturday.
Owatonna defeated Woodbury in the first round. However, the Huskies lost 29-24 to Zumbrota-Mazeppa, ranked No. 1 in Class A, in the second round. The team followed up the loss by defeating Hastings 34-33.
“The boys are wrestling extremely tough right now,” Woitalla said. “We have had a very tough, grueling schedule because we haven’t shied away from any of the top competition in the state. The kids have been progressing well and we have seen improvement every week.”
FINAL COUNTDOWN FOR epic BIG 9 BATTLE
Owatonna will take on Big 9 Conference rival Albert Lea at 3 p.m. on Saturday at home. The meet between two of the top 10 teams in Class AAA has been rescheduled twice this season due to weather. 
Robb said there are a lot of different aspect at play when discussing the meet.
“First of all, of course, is bragging rights,” he said. “ Also we want to win in front of the home crowd. There is also the Big 9 Conference Championship. There is a likelihood that we will be conference champs if we win that meet. Then there is the section seeding, which is another important part because the better seed you have the more likely you are to advance.”
The Huskies are currently ranked No. 8 in Class AAA, while the Tigers are ranked No. 6. The teams each have five wrestlers ranked in top 10 of their respective weight class.
“That going to be a big test to see where we are at in our conference and section,” Woitalla said.
