Randy Scott made way from Georgia to Kasson

Randolph “Randy” Scott grew up in Augusta, GA where His his father worked as a prison guard in a family of four boys. Randy said he played football and basketball while in high school and would play tennis in the city parks and was in the scout program.
He had a variety of jobs such as a short order cook and also cleaning up at the well-known Augusta National Golf Course, famous for the Masters tournament.
He got involved with racing bikes and then motorcycles during his school days.
He then enlisted in the Marines and served from 1979 to 1986. He received artillery and ordinance training and was stationed in Japan for part of his military career.
While he was in the Marine reserves, he was injured in an industrial conveyer belt accident and severely damaged his knees and ankles so he had to learn to walk again. Randy said he still has limited movement in one of his legs. He started cleaning cars as a hobby as he has always liked nice cars and especially clean cars, he said.
He met his wife, Kelly, in Georgia, in 1993. She grew up in Hayfield and in 1998, they moved to Kasson. Kelly came up here first to get moved in and Randy came up soon after on the bus.
When Randy was asked if he had ever seen snow before moving to Minnesota, he said they get a little dusting in Augusta once in a while and things would close down for the day but nothing like we get here.
Since moving back to Minnesota, the Scott family would make a yearly trip to Georgia to visit family and friends.           This year, unfortunately, they have already made two separate trips as both his mother and brother passed away within two months of each other, Randy said.
Randy has worked as an on call janitor at the Byron and Kasson-Mantoville Schools. He picks up food each week for the Dodge County Food Shelf from local stores and has done this for several years.
His wife Kelly works for the Semcac Meals on Wheels program as the site manager. Randy also works for the program and delivers meals to residents in Dodge County.
Randy and Kelly have four children.
