Pherson takes over at Dodge Country Club
For years Ben Pherson spent many hours at golf courses as a sports reporter.
Now Pherson will be spending even more time on courses taking over as general manager of Dodge Country Club on May 22. He replaces Zach Otto who will be taking over as general manager at Stewartville Golf Club.
In an X post, the site formerly known as Twitter Pherson said, “It is an incredible opportunity and truly a dream job for me…DCC features an outstanding bar and restaurant, a championship 18-hole golf course, top-notch staff, and a wonderful, welcoming membership…I’d like to thank the board at DCC for entrusting me with this opportunity…The board’s leadership has helped Dodge thrive and prosper, and it will be utilized as we push toward even greater heights. I’m also thankful that DCC is supportive of me maintaining my role as boys golf coach at Kasson-Mantorville. Coaching is something I truly love, and that will continue both on the course with the KoMets and while giving lessons out at DCC.”
Pherson has no plans to make any pricing changes this summer while he assimilates to the new job. A weekday 9-hole green fee, with a cart, is $36 and $45 Friday through Sunday. A weekday 18-hole green fee, with a cart, is $56 and $65 Friday through Sunday.
He has been with boy’s golf at Kasson-Mantorville for five years, four as head coach. Before taking over at Dodge Country Club he was the communications director at Kasson-Mantorville Schools.
Pherson grew up in St. Peter where he worked at Shoreland Country Club and learned under course pro, Jerry Carpenter, for five years. He played golf for University of Wisconsin Green Bay before transferring to New Mexico State and then Minnesota State University Mankato.
He previously worked in journalism for 20 years. He started as a freelancer with the Mankato Free Press before moving to the Republican Eagle in Red Wing, the Leader-Telegram in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and lastly the Post Bulletin, where he was sports editor for 13 years.
