Overton named Southeast District Lineman of the Year

In the game of football, many games are won along the battle of the offensive and defensive line. In high school, that battle usually adds the extra element of endurance as many times the players that play offense also play defense and look to make an impact on both sides of the ball. However, in the case of Kasson-Mantorville defensive lineman Grant Overton, he was able to make his mark while playing just one side of the ball.
As a wrecking ball on the inside of the KoMets’ defense, Overton was able to grab the attention of everyone as he was named the Southeast District Lineman of the Year.
“It’s really amazing, but very well deserved,” K-M football head coach Broc Threinen said of his senior lineman. “He understands and commits to doing his job on the defensive line. He was a two-gap player that fought for every inch in the trenches.”
Overton showed many characteristics on the field as his length, strength and perserverence that helped lead him to his success. He was also able to lead his teammates helping others get into position for their own success. Perhaps it’s the intangibles that also lead him to earn All-State Academic Honors in the classroom as well.
“He not only does it right on the field, but in everything that he does,” Threinen explained. “He truly puts his name on everything meaning that if he commits to doing something, he makes sure that he does it with excellence in mind.”
All of these things make Threinen believe that Overton will continue his career at the next level and become a player that every coach would love to have.
“He has a great passion for the game,” Threinen observed. “To do any sport at the next level, you have to love it and be willing to put the time in. He also has great length and a nice frame to develop into. I think some college coach will be very happy to have Grant in camp next fall.”
